Since Microsoft acquired Zenimax Media (the holding company for Bethesda, id Software and others), most RPG fans have wondered whether the critically acclaimed Elder Scrolls series would be an Xbox and PC exclusive. We learnt recently that the highly anticipated Starfield is a Microsoft exclusive, and we know now that the Elder Scrolls 6 will also only be making its appearance on Xbox and PC. Maybe if we’re lucky it will be a day one release on Game Pass.
This was revealed in an interview between GQ and Phil Spencer.
It’s not about punishing any other platform, like I fundamentally believe all of the platforms can continue to grow. But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls 6. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.
Microsoft is ahead of the competition at the moment and they know it, with 2 consoles at very competitive price points, Game Pass constantly revolutionising how we access and play games, their dedication to accessibility, as well as this specific exclusivity deal.
I know a lot of PlayStation players who will be duly unhappy, and it does open the floor to a lot of questions, but when it gets down to it, its the only way to differentiate between the competition.
Let us know what you think.
