Back in October last year I reviewed Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. It was truly a unique experience I was blown away with a lot about it. In my final summary I wrote:
A remarkable piece of tech, a magical toy and a truly unique video game that unfortunately favours bigger homes and even bigger wallets…
I still feel pretty much the same way. The tech is fantastic and the concept is exactly the type of creativity that I love Nintendo for. Of course, the issue of price is a real one, possibly even more so here in South Africa. However, I was happily surprised when I stumbled upon this video today showing the free update coming to the game:
As you can see, the game will now include a split-screen option (on a single switch) as well as an up-to-4-player Relay Race. One of the issues I mentioned in the review was the lack of good multiplayer options so I think this will be a very welcome addition. One of the major issues in the original was the fact that if a family with two kids, for example, wanted to have both kids playing the game at the same time they’d not only have to purchase two full Kits, but also, thanks to the lack of simultaneous two-player modes, two separate Switches! This at least solves the two-Switch problem. Now, we’ll just have to see if Nintendo ever decides to sell just the physical Mario/Luigi AR-toys on their own as well.
However, I’ve got to say – I hadn’t thought of Mario Kart Live for a while and having a nice big (and free) update is a welcome surprise. You can check out the full details regarding the update here.
