Sony's one of the seven founding members of the HDMI Consortium, so they probably had a good idea of what was coming down the pipe allowing them to make provision (and why MS couldn't do the same).

The PSVR breakout box I'm sure is not nearly as complicated, just fitted with an off the shelf HDMI board to keep costs down. Probably didn't think HDMI 2.0a was all that important since the headset doesn't support it.

When Ultra HD was first released my model AVR missed the boat by a few months. Despite being fitted with a fancy video board, an HDR enabling firmware update wasn't possible - owners of older units had to send their receivers back to Denon to have the boards physically replaced.
It's my biggest issue with Sony as a company.

They seem to have a complete lack of foresight even when having inside information as you illustrated.

It's typical of a company like "old Microsoft" where the left hand and the right hand don't know what the other is doing and therefore compete with each other.

Well, at the time of PSVR's release HDMI 2.0a was already out, so not including it was a conscious choice on their side. More about hitting a price point than lack of foresight I suspect, same reason the PS4 Pro doesn't have an Ultra HD BD drive.

They probably figured consumers with Ultra HDTVs would be in the minority, and those that did own one could just plug the console directly into their TVs/AVRs when not using the PSVR. Not very convenient though, certainly.

Seems like most PSVR games are PSN only. This is pissing me off, I want a physical copy.

Battlezone physical is R309; digital is R629. Digital is convenient for sure, but there's no way in heck I'd buy it at that price.

Yeah I missed it when it was R399 the other day.

But this game always had a stupid local price, it's much cheaper over the sea.

Recently got a PS4 Pro so looking at PSVR in the coming months. With the price dropping locally, what would the odds be of Sony doing a PSVR Plus/Pro during the Paris or PSX event?

I very much doubt there will be new hardware.
