Default RAM Prices out of control

The price of memory, especially DDR4 has been increasing at a tremendous pace. Last year I managed to still pick up a 2x8GB DDR4 3200mhz kit for R1700. Currently the same set is now R3400 from Wootware and the lower speed 2400mhz kit is now sitting at R3200.

I guess the DDR4 demand and limited supply of it is far worse than ever expected.

Is this because of people buying them for mining rigs or for some other reason?

yep more demand, smart-phones uses ddr4 now, and more pc users are adapting to ddr4.
The same also apply to ssd. This will continue to 2018, perhaps 2019
