Yes I mean the fact that I can't just take the HDD out and put it into another hardware device from the same company and move on.

To move my 2TB means using a third hard drive to back it up first, or nuking it to start over.

Then it also can't download its own firmware even though it has a working boot loader. So it gets messy with a manual download and a USB flash drive.

    It's just piss poor engineering.

Took me like 15min to transfer from PS4 to PRO but I keep all my stuff on external anyway.

Also it is important to note that the internal PS4 HDD is tied to the console not the PSN account, which is why you can't just remove it and plug it into another machine, piracy would most likely be rampant. At least Sony gave us a simple way to upgrade internal HDD's.

An external HDD is tied to the PSN account and not the hardware which is why you can take your HDD to your friends house and use it on their console provided your account is active on their PS4.
Yes I'm fully aware of how to works.

Bear in mind there was no external option when I first installed this 2TB.

Whether tied to the console or account the encryption factor should be easily manageable with a simple release and re-encrypt on a new console.

There is really excuse for this to operate so poorly.

Write encryption for them then to solve the issue.

Or just don't buy their products?

This is the same company that can't manage to change the display name on a profile...

Have always preferred physical when it comes to games. Just don't have the cash for a high speed internet at the moment so anything above 20 gb is a major schlep for me to download. Maybe if I could afford a better connection I'd vote for digital, although I am a bit of a collector, so I still tend to buy the odd DVD/Blu Ray/Music CD.

AAA games I buy physical, and smaller/indie games I buy Digital.

Still buying Blu Rays/ 4K discs etc when at a very good price.
