The LG world of colour video when playing in HDR and SDR looks night and day different.
Rec. 709, what we use for SDR, does cover a good portion of the colours we see in nature, TVs can't reach the Ultra HD Rec. 2020 spec, so we use an inbetween gamut called DCI P3. DCI is the colour space in which most movies were mastered, so we now get a truer representation of colour in film than we could previously.

The much wider colour gamut fills the gaps we couldn't before, it covers things like luminous materials (sports kits), certain spectral bands you might catch at sunset, neon lights, but in many scenes there's no reason to expect colours to exceed even Rec. 709.

The most eye-catching aspect is the new PQ EOTF (gamma), that's what gives the extra punch to colours in the right sort of scenes you're likely thinking of. The wider gamut does certainly add to the presentation, but it's more subtle than you probably imagine - our eyes are more sensitive to contrast than colour.

Some great deals starting to come out in the US on the LG OLED lines so let's hope we get the same here(but I wouldn't bet on it). Seen the 65" C9 for R25k and less already over there

Makro had the 65" B7 on special last year for R30k which was a really good deal.
Maybe we'll get the same special for the 2018 models

Those are LCDs not OLEDs. As for the model numbers, they are the same model so should be essentially the same - the numerical difference is likely down to them being versions meant for two different regions. Features/options might vary slightly to cater to the differences in those markets (whether technical or consumer driven).

EDIT: Googling, it looks like "3" denotes U.S. while "1" is for Europe.

    I'm pondering if I should get a C9 55". But do I really want to use a 55" for a PC monitor?

If you want to use it as a PC monitor, you're going to have to get a remote that can access the service menu in order to disable the ASBL, otherwise the screen will steadily dim on static menus. You should also lower OLED Light down to the 25-30 range, in order to avoid ABL (25 is about the right setting for SDR content).

EDIT: Why not just get a Q90R if it's a large monitor you're wanting? Then there'd be no concerns regarding light output and uniform pixel wear.
