Would trying to back everything up onto it from the current problematic drive be worth the effort or would it likely just copy messed up files and I'll have the same issue.
A ridiculous option to try it to put the HDD in the freezer for a few hours.

Then run your backup if it's a case of being a temporary reading problem.

    And then try again.

There is half a chance the drive itself is fine but the filesystem is ****ed. If you aren't hearing any specific clicks inside the thing or it sounds like it's trying to start spinning over and over again and getting nowhere then that's quite likely.

Yeah Im not sure it's gotten progressively worse and I got a black screen on start up earlier, will try get my saves though most are on cloud at least, I don't see the drive making it through a few hours backup and then again I don't wanna copy over stuff that's corrupted or from bad sectors cuz it'll be in the back of my head.

It doesn't have those usual rickity clicks or scratches while reading though so it might be ok. Will check it out on PC later.

Meh I might have to dust off the vita for a couple days

If anybody cares, new hdd sorted it out so if you have similar issues, suspect the hdd.

But you don’t know if a format of the original drive also sorts it out?

No, I turned the old drive into an external, seems to work fine but havnt used it extensively enough to confirm if fixed or not, shows good health according to crystaldisk but I think the over 2000 power cycles may have taken their toll.

    Maybe.

Or could just be filesystem corrupted on PS4.

Had this the other day, had to reformat and redownload everything and lost all my replays like 70 gigs worth of Kf2 replays .HDD sounded very bad, but after doing a wipe and reinstall, HDD is fine.
