    Default USB Modem/Dongle Provider Advice

    Hello fine gamers.

I'm looking for some Internet advice...

When my Fibre goes down, or I go on holiday, I use a Nokia USB modem to connect to the internet with prepaid data from Cell C. It's super unreliable, and I'm looking for suggestions on an alternative.

I don't want a contract because it's not something I'll use every day, or even every month, so I'd rather buy a bunch of data up front in case of emergencies.

    Any suggestions?

Not cheapest option but Vodacom will have the best coverage and speeds I think.

There's RAIN but not sure if there's pay as you go option.

Thanks for the advice Coldcat. I don't suppose you know the name of the vodacom modem or package? Their website is incredibly unhelpful.

Buy a sim card and load data on. No contract.

You say you got a dongle already. Unless you want to get a better one too. Not sure on your specs but can check this.

There's others out there that are powerbanks too that can sit in your pocket and create a wifi hotspot.

How often does your wifi go down?

Something like this would be better. Also faster speeds.

The fibre doesn't go down often, maybe once a week for half an hour, but because my man is a streamer it looks really unprofessional if his stream suddenly drops and then has no way of telling his audience what happened. We mainly use the dongle for holidays. Neither of us are phone people, so we use the dongle on our tablets when we are away.

Yip, we definitely need a better usb modem than the one we have. With the Nokia one, it's always a gamble if the PC/tablet will even pick it up. I suspect it has been defective from the beginning.

Thank you, I will show your suggestions to my man.

I personally use Afrihost on pre-paid for this. It is a bit more expensive per GB, but the data doesn't expire (or maybe only after 1 year).

They've also got #DataForAll , with 250MB a month for nothin', and I have 4 sim cards for Spotify while I'm driving... https://www.afrihost.com/landing/dataforall/

(I just saw they might stop this at the end of the year... DANG!)
