    I keep seeing people refer to the M87 core as 6.5b times the size of our sun. If I'm not mistaken, it is actually 6.5b times the mass of our sun, whereas the shadow has a "size" or width of about 5 solar systems. And all of that mass is apparently concentrated in a singularity.

    If you have ever looked at the planets using an amateur telescope, you will understand how impressive this resolving power is. I struggle to see good detail on Jupiter with a 10" scope, and that is just around the corner.
