The games releasing in 2020 and 2021 was probably specced and started 2015/2016. Long before even amd had a design down. We almost never see a “uses all the power and features game” in the first year or two of a new-gen.
Fair enough, but we're not just looking at games releasing this year, nor are developers.

If we go by the 2 year mark, we should potentially see 2022-2023 release. This expects a lot of developers to buckle down and hope the platform grew enough or instead continue catering to a larger share of the market (i.e. the larger profit share). Especially considering the GamePass model, which lowers that initial purchase profits in lieu of a recurring one, it may be worrisome.

Anyway, obviously not a single person's worry or the discussion wouldn't exist.

A very nice in depth article regarding the topic of catering to multiple generations though:

The xboxers have lost their marbles in defence of Microsoft and gamepass. Ms can do no wrong, and everything Sony does is wrong.

Agree with everything in the DF video.

There will be games that exclusively take advantage of the Series X and built to support that baseline in a year or two.

Don't understand why this is such a "no go" for so many around here.

If Sony takes 100% advantage of the PS5 and shows off games that are incapable of being conceived for current gen then that will be seriously impressive - don't think any gamer will deny that - but we haven't SEEN anything.

Can't wait for Sony and MS to officially just put their cards on the table.

Sony does not even have anything to show at E3 (last year and this) so I doubt they will have a day 1 'this cannot possibly work on PS4' games other than being greedy for hardware sales.

Is it greedy to be willing to take such a hit in potential software sales in order to offer consumers titles that take advantage of their new hardware? I understand how Microsoft's stance can be seen as pro consumer, but to me Sony's approach is very much pro gamer.

It will matter to die hards.

It's also a smarter business decision sales wise to go cross-gen.

Many 3rd party games will also be cross-gen.

I understand and share the frustration. Those titles will come.

Exactly, so it's funny to categorise developing exclusives as "greedy".
