Default Anyone here using Rain 5G ?

So the Telkom lines in our area went down last week, early feedback is that the cables were stolen and aren't being replaced.

Anyone here using Rain 5G ? How is it ? Easy installation and good communication ?

Currently on 20Mb uncapped ADSL for +-R970pm, but there is no fibre here and most LTE packages aren't uncapped.
I use about 500gb a month so 220gb LTE just won't cut it which is why the unlimited Rain 5G package is very tempting for R1000x24.

Would like to know as well. We’re in prime coverage area, and will actually be cheaper to go the Rain route for me.

I wish my area had coverage, no Fibre, no 5G LTE.
If you haven't noticed already, i really love cheese. I also like video games.

From the feedback I’ve seen is when it works it works well.

When it goes a bit wonky it goes very wonky but I’m sure it will settle down in time.

They don’t seem to install if you don’t get adequate signal to maintain very high minimum speeds so that’s quite good.

Order placed. Let's see how this goes.

PS, @SauRoN any suggestions for a UPS for the 5G router so I can protect it in the case of unexpected loadshedding ?
I see it's R5500 if it needs replacing so I want to avoid that.

I'm one of the lucky ones with almost perfect signal, so my download is 520-620mbps depending on time of day and upload is 65-70mbps.

My brother and my 2 best friends also has it and we are all happy. Let's hope it stays that way! I do 500-600gb at the moment and Rain has not complained at all. There is no FUP but they do state that if you're being overkill you will be dealt with individually so I have no idea what their limits are before they start complaining.

I don't overuse my internet just because I can, some months I only do 200gb.

Is anyone using it for gaming; want to know what type of pings are experienced (to the different city servers) and if there's an improvement over existing LTE/4G connections? DL speeds seem great, which is nice for downloading content, or streaming, but I suspect this won't provide any better stability ito latency.

    @Strifehart has recently recommended this.

Not going to save it from a voltage spike from Load Shedding though, but will keep it online at least.

    Insurance would cover it regardless.

Let me know how it goes, my main concern is that port forwarding is apparently not possible. Not a big deal for normal people but an issue for me hosting some stuff.

I used rain for about 4 months, on their uncapped package from 11pm - 6pm, used it during the day for work and some online multiplayer here or there, I actually didn't have a day issue, wasn't 5g I think it was connecting at 4g. This was a year ago around January - May.

It's near fibre and better than DSL if that answers your question.

5G is a very different beast to LTE/4G and latency is not a concern.

It's a near as good as fibre solution, when it works properly.

Something to consider is that this is the first 5G rollout in Africa there are bound to be some teething issues at times.
