Seen it before. Stop being lazy and just create varying difficulties.

Some games already do this right, it will drop the difficulty curve for that section if it sees you failing over and over. Clever.

Hopefully something that can be toggled on or off. Don't want a game to automatically dial back difficulty if i fail a few times at a certain section. Imagine playing Bloodborne and after failing a few times at <insert boss> it dials down the difficulty. To me, that would suck.

I see it as an essential accessibility feature.

They can add it. Just allow me to switch it off.

I see it as an inconsistent experience. It all depends on where the difficulty exists. If the idea of the run is to not die your going to have one hell of a time. On the other hand if you want to speed through the thing your going to die to the most insignificant thing on offer so you can breeze through the rest of the game.

Crash 4 has a set difficulty but they have 2 approaches to it namely the death tracker and live system. The one lets you finish your stage, the other lets you go back and find more lives to complete it.

Mario 3D World gives you a tanuki suit that works like a invincibility star.

Other games allows you to adjust combat encounters, enemy aggression, health, etc.

I just feel that with all of these systems you get to a point where you cannot win.

You realize it is MORE complex / challenging to implement something like this than to just have "varying difficulties"? If anything, this is the OPPOSITE of lazy.
