So now that this is free to play on pc and console, anybody’s tried it out?

I’m actually enjoying it and where it does seem grindy to upgrade your characters and also has a paywall for other characters, the local co-op gives you enough for that old school kart racer and that’s what I’ve wanted.

Controls are also good and has all the features from Mario Kart that I want. You’ll have to grind through the short starter levels to unlock the game proper but then you can do things at your own pace.

Yeah, playing it, think i commented about it on the Freebie thread. Easy game to pick and play, graphics are pretty smooth. Probably one of my favourite kart games in a long time.
 
I'm almost done with the single player campaign on offer which means I'll have to play the MP modes to get more experiences but that does seem like it will hit a pay to win barrier as my characters won't be leveled up enough to compete. I do like that on the local mp mode all characters are unlocked meaning that I can play this with my kids without spending a cent for a really good kart racer so fair play to Disney / Gameloft for that.

I too am concerned about this potential barrier between paying and winning because of character levels. It's a bit incomprehensible, but I still enjoyed the game.
 
There’s lots of so challenges to get the upgrade items atm to be competitive without spending a cent. I’ll try online races when I get a gap and report back once I’ve given it a fair shake.
