Just some updates...
  • Forum is now on UK hosted servers. You should see some decent performance increase and stability. Please let us know if you experience anything off
  • 2FA is enabled for user accounts. This includes using a 2FA app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Also, there is an email option where you will receive a code. It's always good to protect your account nowadays, we recommend enabling it.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile (Captcha) has been enabled for when a new user registers. Hopefully will keep the spammers out. It should be familiar, see below.

  • Made the site logo smaller and wider reduce the height it took up.
  • Rearranged the discussion boards.
 
  • Fixed the forum logo not showing correctly on all screen sizes
  • Added news feeds into Gaming General/News/Feeds that update every 30 minutes.
    • Pure Xbox = Xbox news
    • Push Square = PlayStation news
    • Nintendo Life = Nintendo news
  • Removed some noise (points and trophies) from the profile info on posts. Still visible when viewing a member's profile.

 
  • Forced the forum to always redirect to https://sagamer.co.za (ie: always secure and non-www)
  • Added a "Limited member" for when a new member registers. They will be limited to viewing and replying to threads, but won't be able to create new threads, view member list, view member profiles, etc until they post at least 5 replies and have been a member for 5 days. Main goal for this is to reduce the spammers/bots that infiltrate the forum with their nonsense. Thanks to @biometrics for helping us with this.
  • Added some "Most Online Stats" to the home page.
  • Thread title is now included in the breadcrumb, and thread title shows above first post. See below...

  • Changed how "New posts" is displayed. Now shows all posts with unread being bolded, instead of only unread posts.
  • Added unread count on menu
  • Added "New" prefix to unread threads.

  • Added "All posts"
    • Will show all read/unread posts from latest to earliest.
    • New posts will be bold with the "New" badge.
  • Changed "New posts"
    • Will show only unread posts from latest to earliest (unless your default filter was set differently)
  • The Unread count
    • Only shows on "What's new" menu now.
    • I had a look of making this optional but its not something that is customizable per user currently. Its either enabled or disabled.
    • Will have a look in the future once I have a better understanding of Xenforo where I could possibly make it optional per user.

The update to Xenforo 2.3 is on hold. Many of the addons used by the forum have yet to be updated for Xenforo 2.3 which will cease to work if the forum is upgraded.
 
  • (Experimental) Added a News Feeds section which pulls news and creates a thread per article.
    • The threads are showed as articles with images and summary.
    • The feeds are pulled every 3 hours with the latest 5 articles from (Pure Xbox, Push Square, Nintendo Life).
    • As I didn't want this to clog up the "What's New", none of these posts will show in Whats New (unread).
    • When a member likes or replies to one of these articles though, they are moved into News section which does show in What's New (unread) so that other members can discuss if they want to.

  • Members can now register with some 3rd party accounts

Update to XenForo 2.3 is complete

The main difference you will see is the new built-in dark theme. Previously we had to use a custom dark theme which made things difficult when applying updates as these custom themes could break. So going forward, we will just use the built-in light/dark theme. Maybe in the future we will tweak the theme colours to give SAG a more distinct look.

The only real issue that has cropped up is that gamer profiles are not showing on hover. The addon author would need to release an update to fix this.
NOTE: for the technical folk. Xenforo removed jQuery in 2.3 :)

  • TapaTalk is disabled. It's extremely unlikely to ever be enabled again.
  • Browser Push Notifications alerts have been enabled. This means that if you give permission to sagamer.co.zato send alerts, then you should receive alerts on your mobile device from the browser. (You should be shown a panel on the bottom of the browser where you can enable notifications).
    • To configure the push notifications, go to your profile and click Preferences. Scroll down a bit and you will come across Push Notifications section where you can configure which alerts you want to receive.
