My wife and I are spending New Years with her family for the first time (it's always my folks that host, but they are away this year). We'd like to rent a nice place to stay for two days or so (us, her Mom, brother and his wife and kids).

We're thinking Camps Bay, Franschhoek or Hermanus - could be a guest house, hotel, anything like that. Any suggestions?

We were in Greyton this weekend, it is a nice little town with quite a few good restaurants.

You are going to struggle to get place in the other tourist spots for the New Year period.

Since leaving it this late try Hermanus as there are a ton of guest houses (and I guess AirB&B), so might have more luck.

You didn't say which date, but the Windsor has a three bedroom apartment 2nd week of Jan.

Thanks for the recommendation, we're looking specifically for New Years, so 31 Dec.
A bit last minute I know, but we just came up with the idea so hunting around to see what's available.

I found a nice villa available at a hotel in Constantia, but it ended up not being a good fit for her family. Instead we ended up booking two houses in Citrusdal in a place called “The Baths”.

A much quieter New Years than my wife and I are used to, but nice to spend quality time. But now on to my story.

We decided to take a break from the rest of the family and go see what else was happening in the small resort (not much).

We wound up at the springs at the top of the resort and took a dip briefly with some stoners. It’s where the sky is clearest on the resort for star-gazing and we sat there a while taking it in.

Listening in on the conversation next to us, the one guy says “look, a shooting star!” The other guy says “no, that’s a satellite.” His friend says, “no way, I’ve never seen a satellite before, that’s hectic!”

Three minutes later another one passes overhead, the one guy says “look, a shooting star!” The other guy says “no, that’s a satellite.” His friend says, “no way, I’ve never seen a satellite before…”
