PS5 Slim

It's a smart revision, but more about streamlining manufacturing than providing the consumer with a more manageable console. Much more interested in seeing the PS5 Pro - I wonder when we'll get official word on that?

Looks sleek, the disc bulge is much more pronounced now, will be quite a decent size reduction.

Wonder how they got the 1tb internal drive size, assumed it would be complicated with the arrangement of the chips.

Sony was constrained by what could be sourced at the time - easy to forget those drives weren't yet commercially available. Now they're common place with a much wider range of possible NAND configurations for Sony to implement.

Yeah, I remember it was something with them using 12 channels for the flash chips so it wouldn't be possible to get a regular size while keeping everything in line and symmetrical. Not sure if they can use different sized chips per channel or whatever.

Probably at least another year out since covid delayed things quite a bit

I will be really surprised if a PS5 Pro happens. The primary reason for PS4 Pro / XB One X was to jump on the 4k bandwagon, not to have games running at higher FPS than they were on the original models.

I don't see the bandwagon Sony or MS will use to justify a pro model, but time will tell I suppose.

Looks okay. Don’t mind the look of the current one. Slimmer but not shorter it seems.

Not convinced we need a Pro or that Sony will do one. The early delays pushed the gen out a bit and Sony can probably get this to carry till the end. Also knowing that MS won’t be doing one and they are destroying the Series in sales maybe it’s not worth the effort.

The base is new, wonder if it can go horizontal with that? Must be a way.

It's all but confirmed, its reported dev kits have already been sent out to developers and specs have been leaked through sources that have proven accurate in the past.

It was to have something to slot in with the Ultra HD standard, but higher framerates did come with the bargain. The Pro will be much more capable when it comes to ray-tracing and there is speculation it might sport DLSS like features.

MS has stated they won't be introducing a Pro model - due to their design approach, the X remains an expensive console to produce. For Sony, offering a Pro model would be great for their PR - think of the One X, people all but forgot the Xbox One in popular discourse once it was released.

There's also the advantage a Pro model would provide when the next-gen roles around. Off the bat Sony would be able to offer a large library of graphically superior titles as standard through backcompat.

From what I understand, the slim sits horizontally now, vertical stand is sold separately.

Happy for the revision especially from a size factor as the current one is only as large as it is to enable a more silent console compared to the PS4.

It now costs more to get the digital edition and when you add on the disc drive, more than the disc edition which is literally the same sku now with the disc module.

Leaks were accurate which means we’re definitely getting a pro. I expected a price reduction though but this gen we’ve got greedy Sony who can charge more and get away with it.

Hopefully the pro is a redesigned form factor and I may just consider upgrading.

Yeah I'm way more excited for the Pro, although I'm not sure how they're going to price it.
Maybe $599 but all digital, that way they don't hit the dreaded $699 but they can make money on the drive ($80) and vertical stand ($30).

Going on the Xbox leaks, Sony is the only one in the game for a performance refresh this gen so I guess they can price it how they like.

The Pro will be an expensive niche seller, Sony will use it as the showcase but the masses will buy the base model.

With the way sales are going I can’t see any reason for them to cut prices for a very long time. Much like the PS4.

I'm still not convinced on the pro, but if it comes itll be same price as current ps5, while the regular gets a 100 bucks price cut.

Not ruling it out, but can't see that being the case. Leaks point to a significant bump in spec, more than doubling performance, can't see them offering that at the current price point.

In fact I could even see Sony pushing the boat out on pricing, given the segment of the market such a device would appeal to.

Watching a video on the spidey “special edition” and the guy makes a good point.. why buy it if the plates and the controller can be bought separately?

I feel like Sony missed a trick and should’ve sold the new design with the spidey motif as an early way to get the ‘slim’ and then sold the plates for the og console separately.

I would imagine the intent is to clear stock of the older models.
