Space

That is very cool.

Can't wait for the Starship 5 launch. They are going to try to catch the booster on return. Only engineers can think crazy **** like that, thing is 70m tall and we'll catch it with a pair of giant chopsticks. Going to be fun to watch.

Orion Nebula for Chandra's 25th Anniversary (Chandra/Webb composite)

The Cassiopeia A supernova remnant has been observed for more than 2 million seconds since the start of the Chandra mission in 1999. X-rays from Chandra (blue); infrared from Webb (orange, white, and blue)

Yeah he says a lot of crazy stuff, gets mocked, misses his own crazy timelines, gets mocked some more, then delivers the impossible.

Yet people still doubt lol.

Can’t wait to see them progress this thing to in-space refueling, landing it on the moon, sending it to Mars etc.

Great time to be alive!

The earliest photo of Jupiter was taken in 1879 by Irish astronomer Agnes Mary Clerke. Clerke published it in her book "A Popular History of Astronomy During the Nineteenth Century."
The most recent photos are from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. Although the composite image taken in the 2020s may look a little odd, given that it is blueish, it has such remarkable clarity that Jupiter’s auroras can be seen above both of its poles.
The comparison shows just how far astrophotography has improved in the last 142 years.

Congrats Blue Origin!

Lost the booster but got to orbit, main goal achieved. Camera footage was **** during the live feed but I’m sure they’ll put out some awesome pic soon.

Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin launches massive New Glenn rocket into orbit on 1st flight

COCOA BEACH, Florida  —  Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket just earned its wings.

New Glenn launched for the first time ever this morning (Jan. 16), rising off a pad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station here on Florida's Space Coast at 2:03 a.m. EST (0703 GMT). About 12.5 minutes later, the rocket's upper stage reached orbit — the main goal of today's test flight, which the company called NG-1.

"We got to orbit safely,” Ariane Cornell, vice president of in-space systems at Blue Origin, said in the company's launch webcast. "Congratulations, everybody. What a day!"

Linky thing

SpaceX's turn today with flight 7.

They caught the booster again!

But Starship v2 died spectacularly, FAA are going to have a field day with that one.

🚨 Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) is ablaze !! I can hardly believe the spectacle we're witnessing, and it's only improving 🤯 I captured this image on January 18 during twilight at the ESO Paranal Observatory in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The comet sets later each night, offering exceptional imaging opportunities. Visually, its tail stretches an impressive 10-12 degrees. Therefore, I adjusted the focal length down to 85 mm to capture the full extent.
