The First Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Hands-On Previews Are Coming This Weekend

Spidey fans keen to hear first-hand reports of how Insomniac’s hugely-anticipated new sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, actually feels to play are in luck this week as Insomniac has just revealed the first hands-on previews of the game are set to drop this weekend.

The studio ran two major preview events, inviting press and content creators to locations in both Los Angeles and London to get their hands on the game, and has flagged that the embargo for impressions from these events lifts at 1AM on Saturday, September 16th AEST.

Not really any need for any previews or reviews on this one.

Insomniac, safe as houses. Spider-Man, who doesn't love that?

I expect more of the same, which is a great thing, maybe a bit bigger and better looking. They've spaced the games out really well so that there's no fatigue which can happen with these open-world games. Pretty sure this is going to be a really solid entry.

The closer we get to this the more excited I become. Things showed thus far looks great.

I'm just afraid the game will also become victim to wokeness...

One thing all the reviews I've seen seem to agree on, the story is very good. Watched the DF tech review and they're making good use of the PS5, so that's nice to see. Look forward to playing it at some point.

Definitely on my must play list. Will probably get around to it after Ragnarok so looking at around Dec/Jan. I loved the first one and enjoyed MM so don't think there's any spidey fatigue for me anytime soon.

Impressive. I saw DF say it stays around 1440p but dips to 1008p in performance mode, mostly in cutscenes.
That being said, it is 60fps with RT so pretty good overall. Would be nice to get a Pro so that 1440p/60 can start being the minimum.

With a Pro, unlocked Fidelity Mode would be the way I'd go (as is I'd opt for the 40FPS Fidelity option).

I find myself mostly going for performance mode when it’s offered. I try the fidelity mode but I don’t think I’m capable of noticing the difference fully whereas with frame rates I can.

Although locked 40fps with the 120htz TV works very well so I’m not stuck on 60fps as a must.

I find with the motion blur the visual smoothness is there and the combat system doesn't require fast reflexes, so the reduction in input response is not an issue - still feels good to play. Whereas the cleaner, more robust visuals adds to the cinematic presentation, which ultimately is the key selling point of a game like this for me.

Pro of course would offer the best of both worlds. If I wait for the inevitable DLC, could find myself playing it on there instead.

Yes and no.

Yes in that you’d get the current top fidelity at 60fps but that would probably be called the performance mode on the Pro.

Then they’d bump up the fidelity mode to more RT @ 4k and drop the FPS or something. There’s always a trade off. But overall still better.

If they do a Pro I hope it’s more of a bump than PS4 to PS4 Pro was.

Great timing for our chat:

Looks like the Fidelity 120Htz Mode is definitely the way to go. Dynamic resolution takes the 60fps mode quite low whereas it holds a lot better at 40fps.

Good and interesting to see that every mode has some amount of RT enabled and the traversal speed is damn impressive. Insomniac i think are easily the best devs of this gen so far. 4 games released, insane.
