VGC reports that dev kits for the much rumoured Switch successor is now with key partner studios and the console is aiming for a late 2024 release.

Who else is excited for this? I love my Switch and use it practically every single day so I'm really looking forward to the next one.

They could just release the same form factor with more powerful internals (PS4 Pro equivalent) and I'd be over the moon. As long it's 100% backwards compatible with both physical and digital Switch games.

there is talk that backwards compatibility may hamper the performance of the new model, but its probably about wanting to sell remasters if you ask me, looking forward to next year, frame rates on some titles becoming an issue

Some more rumours that are backed up by shipping manifests : https://www.resetera.com/threads/le...ram-storage-other-console-information.866529/

12 GB LPDDR5X RAM 7500 MT/s
256 UFS 3.1
Still retains joycons and a dock
Protective case is SIZE: 206mm X 115mm X 14mm so the console is a tad smaller than that.
NVIDIA T239 with 1536 CUDA Cores, 48 tensor cores, 12 RT cores, Ampere architecture with features backported from Ada
8 core ARM A78C CPU
File decompression engine

Now this sounds like a handheld console with phenomenal potential

It won’t be any kind of powerhouse, that’s not Nintendo’s way and it works for them.

I’m not confident it’s going to be a big seller to be honest. A lot of Switch sales went to people during lockdown and now those things don’t get played much.

But Ninty have that game power so they’ll fine, let’s see if my daughter will want an upgrade but she only ever plays Animal Crossing.

I recently got a Lite form Japan. It was just too cheap so got it. I was looking for a Playstation Portal but it was sold out everywhere

Must say I'm quite enjoying the Switch haven't had a Nintendo console since gameboy colour i think.

Im probably not going to run out and get the Switch successor on day one but maybe down the line so im keen to see what they do with the next console.

Don't see a 2024 release, either Q1 or Q4 2025.

No rush for one anyway, I still get new games to play on Switch monthly and the OLED model is a joy to play on when I am on the bus or train. Still a great console so I'm in no rush for a new model right now.

Nintendo says the Switch successor will be compatible with Switch games

Nintendo hasn’t announced its Switch successor yet, but we do know one thing for sure: it will be able to play current Switch games and have carryover for your Nintendo Switch Online services and account. The news was announced during Nintendo’s midyear policy briefing, with further information promised “at a later date.”

This is good. Enjoying my Switch Lite but wouldn't say no to a Switch 2 for a proper TV experience.

Especially if that Twilight Princess remaster finally drops pls Nintendo drop it as a launch title

Cool intro video. But I can already see most people just thinking it’s only a bigger Switch.

Early prediction: Not more than 70% of the Switch sales for this one. Maybe not even 60%.

To be fair though, those are not bad numbers.

Same, I feel like we going into wiU territory again, though will definitely be great success, I feel they're gonna go a complete different route when it's time for the next console.

I'm sure the hardware will be 4 year old mobile tech but the device looks really neat, colour me impressed.

I'm travelling a lot more these days and this would be a nice to have. I've owned various Nintendo consoles on and off, last one was the Wii U - plenty of good software since, might be a good time to hop back aboard.

It's what people asked for a bigger better Switch and that's what they gave. How much bigger and better is yet to be seen but not much more Nintendo needs to do, they built a powerhouse of a console that left all the competition behind so they just need to continue to build on that no need to change the formula that works. Doesn't need some crappy innovative control like they did with the Wii U just build on what is successful and don't go out the boundaries too much. The new mouse functionality of the joy-cons, that's a good addition.

Hopefully a Metroid themed one at launch but I won't get my hopes up.

Those connecters that jut out on the sides are gonna be a major issue
Other than that is looks perfectly fine, wonder what secrets the internals hold

The console is very much confirmed, and we have details!

What’s the price quoted for SA?

Here it’s AUD $700 for the non bundle version. Which it pretty damn expensive but not totally unexpected.

So R8,000 before the magic SA tax gets added.
