If you read my Sims reviews, you’ll often see me mention the lack of content for child Sims. At last, a stuff pack for Sims 4 has arrived with content that is just for kids. Let’s take a closer look.
First up, there is a good selection of new clothing items and hairstyles for children. Although at first glance there may not seem to be that many new clothing options, each piece of clothing has numerous designs that add to the variety. I particularly like the new hairstyles for girls, as well as the numerous t-shirt designs available, including the new ‘pop star’ and ‘cat/galaxy’ shirts.
There’s a new music genre and TV station, and tons of new furniture objects to make your kids room look really awesome. The bed, chairs and related furniture come in a variety of colours and patterns to allow you to make a traditional girl’s or boy’s room and anything in between, with about a dozen colour/pattern options for every piece of furniture. There’s plenty of decorative items in this stuff pack as well, from toys to lamps to paintings and wall decals, all available in different designs (like the paintings in the Cool Kitchen stuff pack), allowing you to really personalise your child’s room.
The rest of the stuff pack centres around two new gameplay objects, the puppet theatre and the Voidcritter battle station. The puppet theatre lets children perform sock puppet shows for other Sims and improve their social skills in the process. A Sim child who puts on a great show will be happy at its reception, while a poor performance may leave dissatisfaction and even sadness in its wake. Voidcritters are basically Pokémon which children can collect and trade with each other. They come on little cards which can be found by rummaging through trashcans and other likely spots, or by purchasing booster packs. Each critter has a name and element, and can be trained for battle in the battle station. Kids can also challenge other children and their critters to battle. The Voidcritters are super cute, and there are several wall decals in this pack that obsessed children can use to decorate their rooms.
While older Sims can watch child Sims using these new gameplay objects, and can technically use the new furniture, Kids Room Stuff is true to its name and contains no content specifically for adults. It’s great to see content tailored just for kids and I really love the stuff that’s been included in this pack. It reminds me of the Family Fun Stuff Pack, which was one of my favourite stuff packs for Sims 2. If you’ve felt like I have that content for children has been lacking for the Sims 4, this pack is definitely worth adding to your collection.
