Fallout 4's Next-Gen Update Is Coming To Xbox Series X|S Later This Month

As announced all the way back in October 2022, Fallout 4 Next-Gen is finally coming. Today, Bethesda has revealed that the upgraded version of its 2015 RPG will launch for Xbox Series X|S on April 25th, 2024.

The update will add new 'Performance' and 'Quality' mode options for current-gen players, while stability improvements and bug fixes will come to all versions of Fallout 4 - including Xbox One. Here's a bit more about the update, straight from Bethesda:

"Bethesda Game Studios is releasing a free Fallout 4 update for download on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This free update includes native applications for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. Experience up to 60 FPS and increased resolutions!"

"Fallout 4 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will also receive a free update with stability improvements, login and quest fixes."

Alongside these technical additions and changes, the team is bringing a selection of Creation Club content to the game at no extra cost. Headlining this content is the 'Enclave Remnants' questline, which also delivers the following goodies to all players:

Enclave Weapon Skins
Enclave Armor Skins
Tesla Cannon
Hellfire Power Armor
X-02 Power Armor
Heavy Incinerator

Fallout: London Suffers Delay, Dev Wasn't Told About Fallout 4 Update

Back in December of last year, we were finally treated to release date news for the long-awaited Fallout 4 mod known as Fallout: London, with plans to release on April 23rd, 2024 for PC. Sadly though, those plans have now changed.

The reason for this is because the developers of the mod weren't aware of the April launch for Fallout 4's official next-gen update until it was revealed publicly a couple of weeks ago, which has caused London to suffer a delay due to fixes that will be required following the PC version of the update. Speaking to the BBC this week, Fallout: London project lead Dean Carter admitted that the team were disappointed not to receive any information about this ahead of time:

The headline feature for many will be the new quality and performance mode options for Xbox Series X|S. According to Bethesda, Performance mode targets 60fps and a 4K resolution with dynamic resolution scaling. Quality mode runs at 4K/30fps and "should not require dynamic scaling." Interestingly, if your Xbox is connected to a 120Hz display, Quality mode will target 40fps. When connected to a 1440p display, Bethesda says Fallout 4 will "run at 1440p resolution at 60 FPS w/ultra settings regardless of rendering mode."
