Today's high and lows

Low: Such is the state of tradies in Aus at the moment that we've decided to just paint the rest of the house ourselves.
High: I've done a few walls and the results are not too bad.
Low: There are a lot of f***ing walls in this house.
Lower: I can do maybe 2 a week so this is going to take a while and the mess will be constant.

Sounds like a lot of hard work, good luck!

We watched "Living" with Bill Nighy on Friday - a simple but effectively moving film, beautifully shot and paced just right. I haven't seen Kurowsawas' Ikiru, of which this is an adaptation, but look forward to giving it a watch for comparison.
I enjoyed his film as well, watched it a couple months ago.

I like Bill Nighly though, he always seems chilled and relaxed. The Worricker Trilogy (Page Eight, Turks & Caicos, and Salting the Battlefield) is a good set of made-for-TV films he was in.

Whoops, posted in the wrong thread - moved it over to the recently watched movies thread.

Ah snap, just like the UK
Getting building/painting/maintenance etc. work done in SA isn’t a problem. Getting a solar/inverter/battery installer to honour their appointments is near impossible though. Got my third appointment for installation postponed again due to the storm in the Cape. To make up they are giving me the new Sunsynk Powerlynk XL rather than separate Sunsynk inverter and battery. Will save space and easier to install, so guess a bit of a silver lining.

Want to fit a new kitchen.

With removal of old kitchen, fit floor and new cupboards, fit gas stove, fit oven and stove, add some plugs and lights, and a few odds and ends. Expected time frame, 2 months with snags. Thanks the ti a I have gotten from neighbours and colleagues.

This is because the kitchen fitters will remove and fit new floor and cupboards, a plumber will do the plumbing when required, a electrician will do the electrics, a gas technician will do gas. These guys are normally different people, and they are not available at a moments call when the fitters need them. So of the 2 month, at least 1 month is just nothing happening except for waiting. Trying to coordinate all of them is near impossible due to the lack of availability as they could be busy else where.

Also, UK workers are so unproductive. They normally only work from 8am until 4pm, max! During that that time there are numerous tea breaks, smoke breaks, and 1 hour lunch. I would be surprised if they even work 5 hours a day day.

High: Had a great time in France, Paris was amazing - we took a bit of an alternate tourist path, staying in Saint-Germain and tracking down the hangouts and homes of people like Camus, Picasso, Hemingway, Sartre and De Beauvoir. I also attempted to track down the cafe Lynch and Monica Bellucci sat at in Twin Peaks S3 - found the street they walked along but couldn't identify the cafe.

Low: Aix was also great, 40th birthday went on until sunrise, but the visit was sad for me at the same time. I was very close with her ex and it made me unexpectedly emotional to see his family without him. It did make me realise I need to reach out to him though.

We were walking around the Eiffel Tower when a bus shaped strangely with a duck painted on it came pass us, we decided to get on and had a two hour bus trip through Paris with a bunch of kids quacking every time we stopped. The bus even went for a way on the river itself.

It was great fun and we had a great time, our original plan was to take the traditional hop-on-hop-off bus but this was perfect for us with limited time.

The area around the Eiffel Tower is nuts though - all those people standing in the middle of the street to take photos, too much! I'll throw the Mona Lisa crowd in there too.

We bought us some croissants and a bottle of wine and sat on the lawns and had a picnic, did not go to close to the tower as I had no plans of going up there.

High: State budget is giving everyone $400 electricity credit.
High: painting is going okay, but slow.
Low: probably going to need a tiler or learn how to tile.

Tiling strikes me as one of those jobs that’s harder to do right than you think - considering the leveling and the number of loose and cracked tile installations I’ve seen.

Edit: While I’m here, bonus high from my France trip, bumped into a well known audio industry figure I admire at the airport on the way back home.

High: my dumbbell bench arrived today, started a 22 day arm workout following athlean x

Low: biceps are really sore been months since I did anything

Will be a high: after 22 days I'm supposed to have bigger arms, currently 36cm

Low: Haven't had a good week. Work has been stressful and chaotic, being pulled all over.

High: Friday tomorrow, so at least the crappy work week is almost over.

Highest: I get to use my new cordless lawnmower this weekend 😬😬😬😬
