Today's high and lows

On the EV side. If depreciation is so bad on them just get a second hand one cheap!

A few people here are using them as a giant home storage solution. Cars with V2G sitting with 40-60KWh batteries. If you work from home they are easy to fill off solar and the amount of driving never needs even 20% of the battery daily.

There-in lies the problem... 2nd hand equals old tech, I want the new tech, but then I'll be the one with old tech in a year at heavy depreciation!

Ha ha, same problem I have.

I look at this Ora that just launched here and I'm like cool I can have this and get it brand new and have all the high tech but lose like 200k on it in the next five years or I can go buy a BMW M2/M3 or some AMG for literally the same money and probably sell it in five years for much the same price.

Or just save my money all round an buy an M1000R and be top of the food chain forever.

yup... so I drove the i4 M50 for a few days - immediately after lending an M4 for a few days... gotta say, it was incredible - not quite the drama and fun of the M4, but seriously quick, in fact in some cases quicker than the M4 and loaded with awesome tech. The car was being offered to me with 8000km and R300,000 less than new and wasn't even a year old.

I'm waiting to check out the Volvo EX30

Otherwise gonna wait for more BYD models to come or get an old PHEV.

Car market at the moment is bonkers though, lots of money to lose there.

Did you guys just get the Ora Cat?

What’s the price?

ICE cars are also in danger of heavy depreciation in the coming years if EVs continue to grow. Maybe not so much is SA as I guess adoption is slower but in a lot of other countries people might not be all that interested in ICE vehicles.

2nd hand equals old tech
2nd hand Taycan should fix that.

Yeah. I believe it hovers between 680-770k depending on model and due to archaic import duties on EV products.

Cheapest EV in SA next to the Mini which is useless.

The Seal has launched here, and it’s pretty amazing.

But the price differences across countries is large. In Europe it’s more than a Model 3, here it’s $10k less.

Damn.

Here it’s $33,500 after gov incentives. That’s the drive away price.

So R420k all in.

Yeah we have no incentives and bullshit luxury tax on top of the usual.

I believe there’s even still a carbon tax as the government has made no adjustment for EV’s whatsoever.

Part of the reason I won’t buy one yet.

From the reviews I've seen (mostly Australian), it looks like a bargain there! And well revered compared to the Tesla

We've got the BYD Atto and soon they're bringing the Dolphin - which even though it is below the Seal they're expecting a R600k-R700k price range. No word on the Seal yet.

I have the Haval H6 Hybrid and I am sold on the EV car concept, they must just get rid of the ridiculous tax here in SA.

The Atto 3 has done very well here, lots of them on the road. Interior is a bit bizarre though. The Dolphin just launched but is getting destroyed in sales by the MG4.

Things are headed in the right direction. Volvo EX30 should be out soon and that’s expected to do well.

Low: Tried to deny it, but can't escape the fact that I woke up sick this morning. Cancelled gym and plan to park off on the couch for the rest of the day and try shake it.

High: Parking off on the couch all day.

High: Monday is pretty much done, always harder coming off a long weekend.

High: Epic test cricket this weekend with great results.

Low: Why Jurgen… why?

High: I am loving the lekker hot weather.

Higher: Cooler today but the forecast is climbing every day until Sunday for a nice 35 degrees when we are going to watch Watershed at De Grendel.

Low: My bank balance after paying for my solar set-up.
