Baldur's Gate 3 - Larian Studios

Baldur's Gate 3 - Larian Studios
Very enjoyable so far. Only issue I have is the twitch drop items not showing up in game, seems to be a wide spread issue.

This was not on my radar at all, but it's getting so much positive press lately that I think I'll pick it up. Looks like the sort of game you can really sink your teeth into.

I was keen, but thinking about the time sink for a narrative heavy turn-based game with so many party members puts me off.
Prefer the ARPG of Diablo and the better POE.

Preordering this on PS5 for sure. Turn-based combat isn't generally my thing but the hype on this 'once in a generation' RPG that has devs arguing over whether the bar should be raised for everyone with an anomaly like this, sounds like a no-brainer.

It's astonishing that it has more hours of cinematics than every Game of Thrones season combined. 174 hours of them, holy ****. Granted that's a lot of playthroughs with different characters, but still a strong incentive to do so.

Digital or physical?

Digital or physical?
Not a fan of physical. The only physical game I've purchased for this gen is Cyberpunk for Xbox, which was R500 at BT Games on the day I bought my Series X and not on sale online. And it was lucky because that game has a fancy retail package for the standard edition.

Even if I wanted physical for BG3, I don't even see a local retail release for it.

Just wondering then why pre-order?

The success has been really nice to see. Didn't expect a crpg to reach these type of numbers playing on steam. Its my favorite genre so really thrilled with this.

Busy playing this on the steam deck, so settings are varying from medium to low but running pretty well. Need to give it a proper shot, but my initial impression was that its a little cumbersome to play with a controller. Not as seamless as an experience as I found with Diablo 4

I hope it's not bad with a controller. Was planning to wait for the PS5 release rather than playing on Mac. Seems to play reasonably well on M1 Pro, but PS5 would be better.

Try keyboard and mouse on PS5?
I only have wireless peripherals, and all paired nicely with my Mac.

I'll assume the console release will be suitably optimised for controllers. Playing the PC version with a controller might be a different experience to console if it's optimised for keyboards and mice. Who knows. If it's awkward for consoles I assume there will be backlash and a subsequent update anyway.

Interesting. Reviewers actually felt it plays well with a controller compared to other crpg's.

These games will always be more awkward on a controller compared to k/b & mouse. Just a lot more options to use compared to an arpg.

Looking at the keybindings for k/b for bg3 vs diablo 4. It's 72 keys vs 47.

It still works well and if I dock the SD, I can easily connect my mouse and KB. But there's a lot more navigation with finding things as well as inventory management. Jericho on discord plays with both and he mentioned it as well

BG3 really took me by surprise, was not expecting something this big and polished. Can already see myself sinking many hours into this.
