Black Myth Wukong

Black Myth Wukong
Rumour, but a very interesting one at that.

Once again, gaming news leaker eXtas1s has taken to Twitter to try and give a bit of an explanation on this topic. According to them, multiple sources at Gamescom 2024 have said that Black Myth: Wukong has failed certification on Xbox - due to a "memory leak" issue on the Series X and S versions of the title.

This technical issue means that Black Myth: Wukong "hasn't passed Xbox's bug detection tests" yet, hence the reason developer Game Science is yet to put a proper release date on the Xbox Series X|S version of the title. The team is apparently "working hard" to solve this issue and will date the game once it's fixed, with Black Myth: Wukong reportedly "close to being ready" on Xbox aside from this glitch.

Making my way through chapter 3, got a new staff that does a lightning strike at the end of the combo, looks cool.

Combat opening up so much as the skill tree is expanded. Lots of new skills to mess around with, game has some great pacing.

Yeah not buying that at all. Bet this is another problem due to MS’s stupid parity clause trying to keep the S relevant in this gen.

If the PS5 can run it without issue then the X can too and I’ve not heard of any other cross platform game having a memory leak issue like this.

This game has (not major) performance issues on the PS5, can imagine it’s much worse on the S. To be fair though it seems like a few basic changes could improve things quite a bit.

There's plenty of posts and comments to be found of PS5 players experiencing stuttering after extended periods of playing the game, the menu begins to lag as well. The only solution is to reboot the console. This behaviour is indicative of memory leaks (not deallocating memory allocations correctly after use). It's likely due to a poor PC port as we know it was ported from PC to consoles.

MS will have automated tests varying from performance, to stress tests, to memory profiling, to exception handling, regression, malicious code test, to identity issues like this before the game gets signed and released. It's unlikely that Sony has this level of testing capabilities because it seems very likely this same memory leak exists on PS5 as well but they failed to identify it.

It's actually even happening on PC as well.

Leaker eXtas1s later added, “The game has already failed the tests twice, hence the delay without an approximate date, since they have not yet managed to pass this certification, which [they were] told is very strict.”

That explains how Redfall got released lol.

Think it’s more that these issues completely break the Series S and MS won’t allow the game to release on the X now and have a delay for the S until a fix is found.

Same thing they did with with BG, make X owners wait alongside S owners.

This is not an attack on the Xbox hardware by the way, the game certainly needs some tightening up but it could easily have been released on the X alongside the PS5 version.

Memory leaks will break all hardware given enough time to saturate the available memory by not freeing resources and memory allocations. Its not about specific hardware except the S with less memory will likely show the symptoms relating to the leak quicker than the X or PS5 would, due to less memory being saturated quicker.

It might have been before SAG closed previously, or on the Discord where I as moaning because even though I play very little on the PS5, I experienced a few crashes while playing a couple games while next to no crashes on the Xbox which I played vastly more. Some of the games where older games like Alien Isolation and Bioshock and Hitman, which I played on both XB1 and XBX without issues, but I experienced crashes on the PS5. Everyone then blamed the games which is fine, but then why isn't Sony ensuring games are more stable on their consoles?

Being a dev myself, I am all for quality control and ensuring software is stable, taking the hard approach to stability. Too often I have been burnt because quality assurance was lacking or just not done, and then I have to pick up the pieces and put out fires.

Nah, those devs must fix their leaky code and good for MS in blocking them releasing it. Too often are studios releasing games that are not up to scratch, not finished, not performing, yet gamers want the games now but then moan when they are not 100%

Thinking about it, gamers are just little *****es 🤣🤣

You are giving MS far too much credit here. They released Redfall and it was a buggy mess. Way worse than what PS5 is seeing with this game and in fact, there's been no widespread reports of the game crashing.

That's for sure.

Damn you can upgrade armour in this game, had no idea, so good cause I didn't want to change my current set, the bonus for perfect dodge is too good compared to the other set bonuses on offer. It also upgrades them into Legendary status, good ****.

We are actively working to resolve this issue and will fix it in an upcoming patch. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Black Myth: Wukong’s Latest Patch Brings Balancing Changes and Bug Fixes

Black Myth: Wukong has just received patch 1.0.9.15179, which features some balancing adjustments and fixes for bugs and crashes.

Black Myth Wukong’s patch 1.0.9.15179 is 1.7GB, but players must reserve around 92GB of free disk space to update “due to the platform’s update mechanism”. Additionally, the patch may cause compatibility issues with some of the mods you have installed, so it is advisable to uninstall the mods and verify the integrity of the game before restarting.

Regarding balancing, the first changes players will observe in this Black Myth Wukong Patch are towards the combat experience for the Yaoguai King “Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master.” Additionally, the issue of the Destined One being pushed out of the invisible walls during specific Yaoguai Chief and King battles has been fixed.

Moreover, the Spikeshaft Staff will now increase your maximum mana by 30, and the Insect armour will considerably increase the effects of all medicine effects. The Black Myth Wukong patch will also reduce the narrowing effect of the timing window for Rock Solid Deflection imposed by the Great Safe Talent “Sound as A Bell (Fuming Ears).”

Furthermore, the Destined One can purchase the “Fine Gold Thread” material from Yin Tiger after Entering a New Cycle.

Bug Fixes

Firstly, the occasional crashing during particular boss fights for Windows systems if the Windows system language was set to Turkish on the PC version has been fixed, along with other crashes and errors. An issue preventing 100% completion from triggering has also been fixed

The Black Myth Wukong patch brings fixes to enemy issues for times when they get stuck or become unbeatable in certain situations or under specific conditions. Also, there were issues with the menu interface affecting enemy skills; murals at the Great Pagoda weren’t displayed correctly, and character models in Flaming Mountains weren’t removed properly.

can believe it. Was at my cousins and saw what BLOPS Zombies looks like on the Series S.
IF you haven't experienced it on Sx or PS5 then yeah its ok.
But for someone who has, it looks like half the eye candy is missing. Lackluster flames, no smoke, no finer details that make environments pop etc.

MS insisting on performance standards for Series S moving forward is going to have developers going home and kicking their cats, or more likely opting out.

Wouldn't advise it as a purchase for someone looking to buy currently. Only going to be increasingly limited with new titles.

The problem is the parity clause.

Imagine if GTA VI can’t run a certain aspect on the S and the X can. No way MS tells them they can’t put it on the X.

But the situation with Black Myth: Wukong gets a little complicated as Microsoft previously issued statements to the press that implied there was an exclusivity agreement in place with PlayStation. "We'd prefer not to comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders but we can confirm that the delay is not due to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us," last year's statement reads. IGN and Forbes reporters also corroborated the statement with their own sources who claimed there was some kind of exclusivity deal keeping the game off of Xbox consoles.

They very likely had exclusivity with PS, various sources mentioned this and it was NEVER refuted by dev.

"The only thing missing is the Xbox, which somehow feels a bit wrong," Feng Ji said, per machine learning translation, "but that 10GB of shared memory - without years of optimisation experience - is really hard to make work." He's of course referring to the Xbox Series S' 10GB of shared memory, down from the Xbox Series X's 16GB of memory allocation - a drop that other developers have also called out.

By dev's own admission just aren't experienced enough to optimise for XSS. But remember the idiom, "Bad carpenters blame their tools" :devilish: :devilish:

Plausible.

Runs fine on the Series X and PS5. Maybe the tool in this case is just too weak. Other devs have had issues as well.

Machine Games optimised Indy for XSS and even mustred 60FPS, and from experience it runs well on the potato.

The problem I think is the some devs wait too late in the development cycle to try optimise for XSS and realise too many core changes would need to be made which is costly, and sometimes nearly impossible without major reworks.

The games director already said there was no exclusivity deal with Sony after all those rumours started circulating about it, they don't have any reason to lie about something like that and whether there was or wasn't makes no difference. If Sony paid for exclusivity then they paid and if they didn't they didn't.

I'd rather they pay for timed exclusives instead of buying out studios only to close them down and put a bunch of people out of jobs.

And then they come up with some bull**** excuse for it. Stop buying developers, if you see a game and think it will sell well then offer an exclusive deal. Although blame also falls to the decision makers at the dev studio, they see a nice payday and don't care about how it affects the bottom people.
