MS wants to own...EVERYTHING!!
I am sure those Gamepass figures are dated now. Expect they are past 30mill by now.

“Leaked” you say.

More like planned disruption.
my thoughts too. Nothing incriminating or that you couldn't surmise given their spending spree and stated goals.
Thinking its just more fuel to keep MS/XB cooking spree on the mind.

Microsoft has announced an Xbox Partner Preview show set for this week, showcasing a number of games from publishers like Capcom, EA, and more. We can also expect some Xbox Game Pass announcements thrown in too.

Xbox Establishes New Team Dedicated To 'Game Preservation And Forward Compatibility'

Microsoft has reportedly established a new team dedicated to future-proofing and preserving the Xbox game library.

In a new "exclusive" from Windows Central's Jez Corden, it's revealed how the recently appointed Xbox president Sarah Bond sent out emails to employees about Microsoft setting up this new specialist team which will build on the company's "strong history of delivering backwards compatibility":

"We have formed a new team dedicated to game preservation, important to all of us at Xbox and the industry itself...We are building on our strong history of delivering backwards compatibility to our players, and we remain committed to bringing forward the amazing library of Xbox games for future generations of players to enjoy."

According to the same story, Microsoft "may have more to share publicly" around this year's Xbox Showcase, which is expected to take place on June 9th, 2024.

In a new rumour yesterday, it was suggested Xbox could also be "gearing up for an announcement on its back catalog of games following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard".

Hmm, this makes me think the rumoured move to a PC platform might be true and this is a VM to run current and past Xbox titles.

Microsoft is expanding Discord support on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One with a number of new features - including a consolidated Xbox and Discord friends list - that'll be rolling out to general users in the "coming weeks" following a bit of Insider testing.

Starting with that Xbox Friends list, Discord friends who are gaming or chatting in Discord Voice will soon appear in the "Happening now" tab alongside Xbox friends in parties or games. Additionally, if a friend is talking or streaming a game in a Discord server voice channel, that channel will also be shown in "Happening Now".

Furthermore, once the update is available, it'll be possible to initiate a Discord call, jump straight into a voice channel, or watch a friend streaming directly from the Xbox Friends list.

And on that last point, when a Discord friend is streaming their game in voice, watching directly on Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One first requires opening a conversation's member list in the Xbox guide. From there, select the profile of the person streaming in the call, choose "Watch Stream", and their gameplay will be shown full-screen.

Yeah, this will continue happening across all game studios for another year at least. This is due to massive hiring they did during covid due to surge in gaming while people were at home. Now those short-sighted plans are showing how short-sighted they actually were.

That said, it seems to be mostly non-developer layoffs.

For the past year, our goal has been to minimize disruption while welcoming new teams and enabling them to do their best work. As part of aligning our post-acquisition team structure and managing our business, we have made the decision to eliminate approximately 650 roles across Microsoft Gaming — mostly corporate and supporting functions — to organize our business for long term success.
