Tolletjiebrei is an old knitting technique used in South Africa, especially by children, to create long, narrow knitted cords. It was a simple form of knitting done using a spool (often an empty wooden cotton reel) with four small nails hammered into the top. The wool or thread was looped around the nails, and stitches were lifted over each other using a needle or hook, forming a continuous tube of knitted fabric.
