One thing that simply does not work for me is the new saying "Siri" only instead of "Hey Siri".

It's configured on my HomePods and everything but simply does not respond.

I’ve switched off the Siri command and left it as a button press whenever I need her. Works for me and stops my kid from triggering my phone.

On the iOS update I’ve just stopped using the betas and update once the software is officially released because there’s usually a flurry of detailed you tube vids that walk me through the features so I save myself some tinker time.

Anybody updated to iOS 17 yet?

I’ve tried the personalised voice feature and it’s scary when it get things right. It’s nowhere near a finished product but I can easily see this tech adapt over time to function as your assistant with ai screening calls and making arrangements for you.

Haven’t noticed a dip in battery performance as well which is good since my phone is a few years old now.
Yup, running smooth on the 14Pro

Haven't bothered with the personalised voice but would like to figure out how to get Visual Voicemail feature working on Vodacom. Their support didn't have a clue.

I disabled and 'retrained' Siri and since then it's worked without any issues on my phone.

On the phone and watch I have it off for battery reasons but on the HomePod it pretty much makes it all work.

My kids know how to use it as well, our grocery list is with Siri so kids know to ask her to add stuff.

Did anybody catch the Apple event last night? Ill have a look today, haven't seen much (purposefully). I looks like there are new airpod's pro? If so i might get that my 1st gen Airpods pro's are acting up. I tend to use them more often than my Sony WH1000XM3's just because of the connivance has they have become my favourite Apple device just because of the ease of use and the great passthrough

Meh just had a look, it looks like its just an update to the existing airpods pro's 2. Looks cool but ill maybe hold out for another year if my 1st gen Airpods pro hold up.

I saw the event. I'm in the position of having to upgrade now predominantly because I need more phone storage (64gb currently) and the battery is showing it's age now (83% health). My only issue is that I'm torn between going for the pro or the normal 16 as I prefer the non stove like look and marginally smaller and lighter form factor of the normal one.

Isn't the 16 really just a shinier 15? I haven't checked the event, but I really don't think enough time has passed between models to really consider it an upgrade.
Maybe just a few minor tweaks

I can total agree with that. I got the 13mini back in 2021 I think and holding on to it as long as I can. I like smaller phones.

I would go for the normal 16, the pro is nice but I think its overkill. The only function you will probably use is optical zoom. Not a deal beaker for me.

I found the Airpods Pro 2 to be a significant upgrade from the Airpods Pro 1 - noise cancelling was much improved.
Good to know thanks, I nearly got a pair in Japan earlier this year but decided agains it. Slightly regret it now. My thinking was that my 1st gen airpods where still good and they would probably release gen 3 this year so i might should just hold out. But now my 1st gen airpods are acting up and no gen 3.

Im not taking any long flights until probably next year so ill hold out for a little longer.

I was mainly hopping for new airpod pro's not a phone. I keep my phones for 3-5 years at the moment. Im on a 13mini love the smaller phones so Ill hold on to it until its either unsupported with new OS updates or it breaks. I had a 7+ before this and I used it for 5 years, and my dad is till using it.

Ill probably upgrade to iPhone 17 or 18 at this rate AI features on a phone is not a big enough draw for me for now. Im more excited about the AI implementation in Mac OS.

I think you and I are very much aligned in our thinking. Plus the R8k I save in upgrading to the pro will be diverted to funding the Mrs's upgrade from her S22.
