Would you buy a home people might confuse with a store?

Move to Joburg. Your life will never be boring [emoji23]
Worked there for 3 years. Flew back and forth every fortnite weekend. Lived in Durban till 17. Travelled and partied hard across Southern Africa extensively when I was a Roady with sound company. Did that for 4 years.

Cape Town is the best place in South Africa. imo

as regards the question: Yes, if the price and neigbourhood was right

Quick update on this place, we looked into the property and turns out legally we would be obligated to use the street facing portion of the ground level as a commercial space, so that rules it out for us.

Another interesting place we came across has an unusual bedroom. Nice and spacious, but the en suite is more in suite... I like it, but my wife's not so sure:

No idea when we can move, have to wait until we sell our current place. We had an offer after the first viewing but rejected it as his opening offer was well below asking - perhaps we were too hasty but it was the right choice at the time.

That's actually very cool and quite cleverly designed.

I went to look at a house which was clearly a swinger's tavern or some such where the ensuite was glass walled from the bed and offered up two showers adjacent to one another with everything else completely open plan.

In this case it's a lot more tastefully done with the toilet at least out of direct view, but I see no reason why there couldn't at least have been some kind of barrier put in place.

Out of that whole space the thing that would bother me the most are the open cupboards.

I have a similar dislike for open hippy-style kitchens because you either need to accept it will be a permanent mess, or you need to constantly keep it pristine which is bloody annoying.

When it comes to a cupboard and my wife I know that entire space will be perfectly ****ed.

The basin looks interesting, I'm assuming that opens up at the bottom to have storage? I don't know if I could just live like that frivolously packing **** away the whole time just so it looks picture perfect.

I love these kinds of setups for a weekend away or a holiday where it's completely temporary but I never can see myself actually living in them.

Also not having a mirror by the basin would drive me insane.

We were at a house party a while back that had a window in the toilet door with a mirror along the back wall so that when you looked into the window you could see the full room. There was at least one interesting view over the course of the night.

That part doesn't bother me, we never close our bathroom doors anyway.

Yea, that is a point of discussion. It's normal for a walk-in closet (which those are in the style of) but not just in the room like that. Would depend on the dust situation.

I'm curious to know what a hippie kitchen is? As for keeping a kitchen neat, maybe that's a having kids thing, but it has never been a problem for us in the past.

I would guess it opens up, we haven't looked at the place yet. As for keeping it picture perfect, that is how I like to keep our place anyway - again maybe the kids difference.

Also not having a mirror by the basin would drive me insane.

Good point, I didn't think about that. Floating a mirror from the beam might look nice.

Ja, I am not a big fan of my bathroom inside my room.

Ja, my wife neither. She's worried she'll bump into the bath or basin on the way to the toilet at night or some such.

.

Nah my kitchen is always pristinely clean, kids have no bearing there and know to load their stuff in the dishwasher.

With hippy kitchen I mean similar in style where there are just open shelves and everything is on the counter for a lack of drawers.

Pans/pots hanging etc, which in itself it either a case of accepting their tarnishes or constantly cleaning with abrasives. This part I don’t dislike so much as a means to show off a collection

But like you say dust is the biggest issue.

A cluttered counter is a no go agreed, but we used to have a chef living upstairs and the way he refitted the kitchen was with knives on the walls, pots and pans dangling - I think for him and the way he cooked it was practical.

We have some open shelves in our kitchen. I like all the crockery open so I can grab plates, mugs, glasses and what not easily and my wife has one of the top cupboards open so she can grab her spices and have quick access to her breakfast stuff. It's practical, still looks neat and dust isn't an issue in the kitchen area.

Yeah my knives are also on display and when I redo my kitchen I’m considering having my pans hanging and permanently in view.

Doesn’t quite work so well for pots and I hate cutlery standing around in upright “jars”.

Day to day cooking things like knives and spatulas etc I can live with and makes practical sense in easy reach.

Along with oil and basic spices of course.

Then again the way I see my kitchen with a floating island and extractor built into the hob none of that makes sense.

I like it to look at, would hate to live with it.

Is there a shower anywhere in there?
