They’ve pretty much done that everywhere with big discounts on the current models. The only people who would buy a special edition are most likely the ones who haven’t purchased a PS5 and at this point you rather just wait to get the slim.

I think the point is to sway those people with Spiderman 2 branding.
 
Sony in a good position here. Dropping costs and simplifying the SKUs, price even went up!

They can, for the short term, sell everything they make without issue. They raised PS+ prices and not many left. I get the feeling they are building up a buffer because with the ABK deal going through basically anything goes now.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Sony make a medium sized, strategic purchase soon.

They're not swaying anybody by selling the only differential items separately for existing consoles.

Yeah they've probably scaled down manufacturing on the original SKUSs and this new slims is definitely cheaper and more efficient to produce with the drive attachment which was something they should've done from the start.

I don't think their strategy is to build up cash flow for an acquisition but more profit driven as this generation has seen the reemergence of greedy Sony. They've got enough studios with great IPs and no shortage of exclusives already. They've acquired studios that they've already had a working relationship with so if there's any of that I'd say its most likely Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics.

Kinda looks like they went to Ali Express for design ideas because it looks a lot like the fakes sold on that site! Can’t believe Sony make this thing uglier [emoji85]
 
Yeah I don’t think it’s a good reason to upgrade your PS5 if you have one unless you have the digital and would like the ability to add a drive down the line.
 
Got the FNB Bundle last year. It's quite the chunky boy so I was hoping for something smol.
Everything just getting too big. The PS4 Slim was just the perfect size.

I want to get rid of the disc drive, but also not willing to pay for it specially.

I like the option of it being removable but would’ve preferred a separate attachment but apparently there’s some drm law on the drive as well which means you can’t share between consoles as it’s paired with the first one.
 
I actually think it’s smaller than I was expecting. Definitely no point getting one if you already have a PS5 but this will save Sony a lot of money.
 
I must be one of the few people that actually likes the look of the PS5. I think it looks good in my AV cabinet, breaks up the monotony of black boxes - but I suppose most people don't do big black boxes under the TV anymore.

My friend has her PS5 and Series X sitting behind the TV, which I suppose is one way to do it.

Looks good in my white cabinet. Not for everyone but I never thought the PS3 was good looking. PS4 and PS2 were nice.

Everything beats the OG XboX though, gross. The 360 was nice looking. Find the Series X to be bland.

So ugly that I think that 3D printing enthusiasts will design some sort of cover for it

Edit: I think it may look better in landscape mode actually
 
I don’t think they thought of landscape mode with the original design and now are stuck with this philosophy going forward. Have you seen the ‘stand’ pieces for landscape on the slim? Even Ali Express can’t get cheaper than that [emoji23]
 
So it seems we can swap drives between consoles even though they have the drm registration. If they don’t fix it with a patch later it’s pretty awesome and what was expected with this move. I anticipate lots of peeps cashing in on the drive when they go completely digital.
