War Machine

10/10 for me

These types of movies tend to be kinda generic with no real tension.
My expectations were also quite low ... because Netflix.
However, this was quite good!
I really enjoyed it!

War Machine - It was ok but it really made me question whether these things are alien made. Crash lands through a mountain without a scratch, gets C4 stuck right on top of it and detonated yet not a scratch but but arm gets damaged by falling rocks from a grenade 😄 too much points towards these things being man made and the silly clunky design just couldn't get me believing these were from another planet. Also if you can fire energy projection weapons why do your bombs have the same impact as a grenade. why are they not energy grenades or something? Weird choices made.

So truth is, I couldn't watch it, didn't enjoy the first 15min so did other stuff on my notebook/phone with the movie on in the background - I'll confess I watched it on and off, looking up maybe half the time, and then got hooked during the last 20min or so. LOL.

My review is irrelevant, but the 2 ladies in my house thought it was brilliant and shed many tears. YMMV.
 
Marty Supreme - 6/10

Shamalalalot puts in a good performance as does the whole cast. You would think it would be hard to make a movie about ping pong interesting but that’s just a false driver.

The pace is quite intense and it’s a bit of a frustrating watch because this guy is just such a big knob and bounces from bad decision to bad decision causing all kinds of chaos. It’s hard to root for him. There are some funny things that happen.

Then I felt the ending was a cop out. The “redemption” didn’t really close it off for me.
 
Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc
8.5/10

The animation was top tier, but the tone was quite different from what I've come to expect from the series.
It just left me feeling "meh" due to the ending.
 
The Big Short

7/10

Been wanting to watch this for a while, so my expectations were high. I enjoyed most of it, but some parts were oversimplified (Hollywood vs boring finance reality) and some parts were glossed over which would have really added to the story. Oh well, typical book to movie adaptation. Well worth the watch. Thought Carell and Bale had great performances.
 
I watched Persona for the first time with my wife last year on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We got more than we bargained for and ended up chewing it over for the rest of the day.

I rewatched it today, having been reminded of it by a sight gag in Last Week Tonight. Everything fell into place on second viewing, really enjoyed it!

It has a lot on common with Lost Highway if that helps clue you in.

It’s entertaining enough. Rockwell is great as always. Half the ideas and concepts are cool and half just don’t work.

The first 3rd of the movie is pretty intriguing but falls away after that. The messaging is a bit heavy handed and clumsy but relevant to today’s world. Could have been much better.
 
Scream 7 - Was ok, not as good as the previous one and the whole AI thing is just a bunch of BS, massive cop-out.

We were supposed to go watch it yesterday, but the cinema we planned to see it at was closed for a special event :(

My wife's in SA from tomorrow until next weekend, so going to book for the following Monday - really looking forward to it!
 
I seldom watch a movie and then think about it for several days in a row afterwards - and even seek out more info about characters, the story, and in this case the original book. I don't want to oversell it, but every single thing about it was great.
