Titan-Ice calls it quits

This is bad.

First Rebel Tech, now these guys.

We're running out of alternatives to Evetech, and I don't like that.
Evetech is really not great ... and I used both Titan-Ice and Rebel Tech as alternatives in the past.

Luckily we still have Wootware as well. So far i do not had any issues with them. Have not ordered anything from Evetech as i as well did not hear great things from them. There is a place in Randburg called PC international. I have ordered quite a few times from them as well, however i did go directly to their store. Have not ordered anything online from them yet, though

Not sure about what they mean about direct imports?

My take is that Wootware and Evetech have big buying power and are able to import directly?

Can confirm Wootware is amazing.
I'm ashamed to say I was a difficult customer when I last dealt with them.
But they were professional and very understanding. 10/10 would recommend.

I totally forgot about them. 😅
They are becoming the Obi-Wan of retailers for computer enthusiasts in South Africa.

I'll check out PC international next time I need something too, because I like being able to pick stuff up to save time.

I have ordered from Evetech and I've got nothing positive to say honestly.
They take way too long, their staff are not friendly at all and if you ever need to RMA something, all I'll say is good luck, because you will get blamed for it and most likely get stuck with the faulty product.

That's something I miss Rebel Tech for the most.
They were gems, even helped RMA stuff that wasn't purchased through them, just because they were those kinds of people.
It's really a shame that we're loosing amazing companies like this.

That's the weird thing, I thought most of them got it through the local warehouses that import them.
But my guess is this is specifically for products the local warehouses don't have stock of?
I recall Titan-Ice having stock of stuff I couldn't find anywhere else, so it would make sense that they imported more of their stuff directly instead.
Like if the warehouses don't have supply of RAM, they likely tried to source it themselves.
 
It's interesting when one looks at these links below:

It's pure speculation from my side on how Evetech puts a label on these cases. Considering how many PC cases are produced by OEM/ODM manufacturers these days, my point is that if only Evetech sells them, they presumably have a supplier somewhere that gives them cases to the specification they want. You can't browse other PC shops and find these exact models — even asking Rectron would probably just get you a blank stare.

Wootware's monitor is even more interesting. We know the QD-OLED panel is from Samsung Display, but the rest is speculation. Whether Wootware buys a complete ODM monitor and has it branded, or specifies certain components, chassis and firmware themselves, would be interesting to know.

Wootware also seems quite willing to look beyond the traditional big-name brands. They import some very good Chinese mouse brands that you don't commonly see through the usual local distribution channels, which gives consumers access to products that might otherwise be difficult to buy in South Africa.

Speaking from a consumer perspective, the product listed is a great price for what you get. At that sort of pricing, it becomes difficult to justify paying substantially more for an ASUS or Alienware equivalent from Titan-Ice.

So I guess for us consumers, Wootware and Evetech are doing good things by having their own brands at decent prices, but perhaps it hurts the smaller guys?

It would be interesting to hear from some of those smaller retailers on what their take is on Titan-Ice's closing message. Maybe they could also clarify exactly what "Direct import" means in this context.
