PlayStation 5 Pro (PS5 Pro)

Will you be getting a PS5 Pro?

But the PS5 can do 8k / 60fps / RT.

Just not all at the same time!

Love all the whining.

I mean, if we're being pedantic, the Xbox One S can do 8K*¹ / 60FPS*² / RT*³ too

*1 on compatible 8K TVs which support 4K input *2 on compatible TVs with motion interpolation *3 via cloud-streaming supported Series S|X games that support raytracing

R19499 SA Pricing, think that’s quite fair. That seals the deal for me, we get it a bit later - preorders 1 Nov launching 13 Dec thanks to SA regulatory delays.

PS5 Anniversary edition also up (non Pro, digital) and pretty fair price at R12499.

Still quite a high premium vs other countries though?

You won’t have to preorder. There will be plenty of stock but if you are aiming to get one then get the addon drive for it now. No stock of that anywhere here anymore.

Yeah it's high but in-line with what the SA distributor has been doing on the PS5 for the last couple years
R14k for the $500 PS5 which is R28/$ and now R19.5k for the $700 PS5 Pro is nearly the same at R27.85/$, so not being exploited more than usual.

I have no use for the drive. All my games are digital and I don't do 4K Blu Rays, just streaming.
That's a good thing too, because in SA that $79 drive is R3k, a whopping R38/$. Now that's a premium.

I see the best seller rankings update hourly. Probably peaked the when pre-orders opened.

Shame we can't see the history, would love to see how many were actually pre-ordered and when.

whooah, its now #31. These lists must be changing in real-time.

The article does mention it's based on last week's sales.

I see it's still the best selling console on US Amazon:

I still feel they really should've upgraded the CPU too at that pricepoint. Fidelity mode still looks so dense compared to the Pro mode.

I suppose it comes down to where budget is best spent - we are talking a doubling of framerate.

Personally I’m curious to see how the Pro fidelity mode turns out. That goes doubly for whatever Remedy have done with Alan Wake 2.

CPU upgrade would have caused many issues, this is just a refresh with a high price but probably mainly looking to test and improve PSSR for the future. It’s genie really.

That R&C comparison is about the least impressive I’ve seen so far, mainly because the game looks so damn good even on the base machine. More impressive stuff will be coming soon I’m sure.

I'm still on the unnecessary upgrade camp. Like the PS4 pro this kinda just kills the generational leap when the PS6 comes out

Yeah I think that’s going to be even more apparent next time around.

PS4 Pro to PS5 at least also saw the two biggest QoL items that gamers wanted outside of performance, those being the noise of the machines and loading times.

With those solved what’s the PS6 going to bring outside of yet more visuals?

The big leap that needs to be made, by everyone, is making games faster and cheaper.
