I do wonder how much the costly Concorde failure has caused the higher than expected prices.

They walked back on GAAS with the bad response.

I wouldn't mind them walking back by $100/€150 due to overwhelming negativity. A ~150 SAffer poll on myBroadband showed only 2% of voters are willing to spend >R17.5k on a PS5 Pro.

It would be a mistake to walk it back. They ran the numbers, that’s the price - internet feedback means little to nothing.

I have two friends who are buying one and they know nothing about any of this negative feedback.

No offense but I doubt the friends in your circle worry about an expense of 800 Euros, so it wouldn't affect them. Tell them the middle class aren't happy :ROFLMAO:

I mean when you weigh it up this side of the world 800 Euro's is a ****ty couch from Ikea. Probably why people don't buy them and shop elsewhere, kind of like what is happening with the majority consensus of the PS5 Pro. Better value for money elsewhere.

Anyone buying one saying they don't know anything about the negative backlash either is just talking BS or is buying one just because it's the new thing, they probably buy every new Iphone release as well. You know those types 😏

The most striking thing about this week’s PlayStation 5 Pro reveal wasn’t the internal power or sticker price (although that one was pretty shocking). It was the games.

In a nine-minute presentation revealing the new iteration of the PS5 and touting its impressive hardware specs, lead architect Mark Cerny showed footage of games including The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. One common factor? They were all also released on PlayStation 4 — and look perfectly fine on the 2013 console.

Another common factor? They all have incredible graphics — despite most of the games being years old.

But by the mid-2010s, you had to start squinting to see the yearly graphical improvements. Nowadays, they barely exist. Red Dead Redemption II, released six years ago for the PlayStation 4, might still be the best-looking video game on the market.

This is all fine! Games do not need to keep making vast graphical improvements when they could instead be pursuing innovation in other ways. But watching Cerny’s presentation was a reminder that despite the giddy excitement over ray-tracing and reflective surfaces, the graphical improvements brought by the newest consoles on the market are insignificant.

The $700 PlayStation 5 Pro will certainly appeal to tech aficionados with lots of disposable income who want to play games at 4K resolution and the highest frame rates possible.

But this is the thing. As I've already stated, Sony is a hardware manufacturer, they still make CD players - if there is a market, they will produce the product. They crunched the numbers and they see a market for a high-end PS5, it is not for the mainstream, it's a luxury extravagance. They subsidise the cost of the PS5, with the Pro, the consumer foots the bill.

Just because most people dislike it on YouTube doesn't mean a low volume product is not ultimately profitable for Sony. Even if they only break even, it's invaluable R&D for the machine learning features of the PS6.

Zero. That’s like saying Xbox put out the 2tb Series X to cover Redfall. Just silly.

People can be outraged all they like, this thing is a luxury. Keep the PS5 or buy a slim it will play everything perfectly. There is no reason to get a Pro other than wanting the best possible way to play on a console. As with all tech, that final 5%-10% improvement comes with a much bigger price bump.

In the meantime, addon drives are sold out world wide. Doesn’t seem like Sony will need to walk back anything at all.

That’s only 6% of people who watched it.

The real test will be what happens with sales. I can see on this side it’s going to sell out. Same people who were outraged on day 1 have gone and bought the addon drive “just in case” 😂

$1,200 is a lot, but that’s what a decent robot vacuum cleaner costs here, or annual car insurance, half of a ticket back to SA for me etc.

If you game a lot then comparatively it’s not terrible.

This is what happened with the PS4 Pro where they dropped the price of the PS4. It’s not happening here, they’re making money on the PS5 and even on the Pro thanks to the low costs of an old process bode, last generation GDDR6 and cheap NAND.

Is 720p/60 really “playing everything perfectly”? It’s not so much as wanting the best possible way to play, it’s just looking for something decent. If the PS5 was 1440/60 on everything, I wouldn’t care about the jump to 2160P.

Not in SA. By scalpers in the first world wanting to make a quick buck with all their disposable income perhaps.

They dropped the price on the PS4 because they could, this is not a reality for Sony with the PS5 under present conditions. That doesn't mean the PS5 is not aggressively priced, if MS could have undercut Sony on price they would have and vice-versa.

It is in the minds of the developers, else they would not have specced the game that way. It's the curse of fixed hardware, there will always be that point where developers pushed it harder than some members of the public would like.

That's also the benefit of the Pro console, as that scenario is countered by the fact that the target remains the base console.

Do we know for certain it's scalpers buying the drive? On the UK AV Forums people are posting pics of the drive they just bought in anticipation of the Pro, Richard Leadbetter himself picked one up early expecting a runoff after the announcement.

That’s the line for you, for others it’s 4k60 or it’s “unplayable”. I seen people say that.

I’d say 1440p@60 would be awesome but not if you play GTA 6, for example, and the streets are empty. In that case I’d rather they drop other things but make the world alive.

Which kinda shows you can ignore those completely. No idea what 91% of people think if you choose to use that as a metric.

The 3% are happy because they are getting a PS5 Pro
The 6% are pissed because they wanted one but its now priced out of their reach.
The 91% were never getting one in the first place

:p :p :p :p :p

Not sure why everybody is so fixated on the drive or stand or price, the system won't be doing anything that the regular ps5 can't albeit with potentially better image quality that's if the devs can be arsed.
