What, you didn't take leave?

** NOT A REAL GAMER ** :p

I'm actually surprised how many people did take leave. The UK AVForum has been very positive towards the Pro and there are a lot of people on there who have bought one, most of whom have taken a long weekend.

I am pretty sure I took leave when I got my XSX, but then it only rocked up from Amazon late afternoon, so that was a waste.

What’s the noise like on a Pro enhanced title?
I’m playing Ghostwire Tokyo which is not an enhanced title. Got boost mode running though.

Fan is audible as a low hum from 2 meters. OG was totally silent with my ear right on the machine. So this is definitely louder. Some are saying it’s totally silent, some say they can hear it. Not sure how prevalent it is but it’s not loud, it’s just not silent either.

As for the performance. This is an interesting game, it’s not patched and I’ve not played it before but there are a lot of options.

Quality mode with RT at 30 looks good but feels like ass.

Performance mode is 60 with no RT, plays well and looks good.

Then there HFR modes which look like unlocked modes, one for Quality and one for Performance.

HFR performance is no RT and according to my tv is pushing 100+ fps with VRR and feels great.

But I’m playing on HFR quality which is using RT and my TV is saying fps between 70 and 90 and it looks and plays amazingly well.

Would love for someone with an OG or slim to try these modes as well.

Impressed with how easy it is for devs to add PSSR. It's not only on 1st party in the begining, but everything from UE5 to EA's Frostbite and even No Man's Sky's proprietary engine.

Bodes very well for the future.

Already scratched my Pro installing the NVMe, not a fan of the faceplate lock design:

On my PS5 I scuffed the heck out of the underside when taking the cover off for the first time since it felt like Hulk put it on at the factory. Thankfully not visible with the cover on.
Seems Sony still has difficult plates, thanks for the heads up.

As for noise, not too worried anymore. Seems like it's very subjective, some say it's slightly louder due to the bigger fan but thankfully not a PS4 Pro situation where the words jet engine came up from just about everyone. That 4nm chip keeping the power increase to about 20w over the original definitely avoided any disaster.

So far it looks like Sony is on to a massive winner regarding PSSR. Having that in-house could make a big difference with zero dev effort and their version 1 is already better than FSR.

The boost mode is also doing good work on non patched games, again zero effort and better results.

Thinking about this and it’s obvious the fan speed is not related to heat in any way. As soon as you go into a game it speeds up and as soon as you go back to the menu it slows down. My guess and hope is that Sony are playing it safe at launch and after a set amount of time if the data supports it they will patch the FW to manage the speed accordingly.

I was a bit careless, I didn't bother to check how to actually remove it first, but I was thinking it is the underside so I was prepared to suffer my stupidity - still, I should have looked into it. It does actually click off rather than slide off like it did on my launch model.

Initial reports I'd seen said the console was quiet, but after your post I did see some people complain about it being noisier. On the dash the console has been silent, but I've heard the fan when starting some games and it does sound different from my launch model, but I can't say it sounds any louder, I haven't noticed it playing games so far.

Sure but 825Gb + a 2Tb NVME is more than just the 2Tb of the Pro.

I paid R10k for my PS5 Digital that already came with a vertical stand, and R3k for a 1Tb NVME for a total of R13k. Now 55% more money gets you an extra 175gb, 45% faster GPU, PSSR hardware, Wifi7 and a shinier vertical stand.

It's not terrible value, but it isn't quite good either.
But ey coming from a ps4 to ps4 pro . The ps5 to ps5 pro seems like a bigger jump.
Especially when xbox launched thr Xbox x 2tb version being so close to price to the pro it makes to much sense getting the pro
