At $699 I’m sure?
That man's carpet probably costs more than that, don't think he's worried about cost.
At $699 I’m sure?
Was that not the promise with the PS5? What has changed? Either the PS5 did deliver on the promise which then begs the question why is the Pro even needed if the PS5 image quality was fine up till this point and if it wasn't what makes you think they will keep their promises on the Pro when they didn't with the PS5?
You should give it a go in a few months. 9800X3D and RTX5090 PC build.
Star Wars Outlaws
- PS5 720p/60 + no RTDI
- RTX4090 1440p/90 + RTDI + much higher settings + DLSS 3.5 FG
Alan Wake 2
- PS5 850p/60 + no Raytracing at all
- 4090 1440p/70 + Pathtracing + much higher settings + DLSS 3.5 FG
With a 40% faster 5090 and DLSS improvements you'd basically have PS6-level performance with DLSS surpassing anything PSSR could do.
So I'll give you the rundown on why I'm not keen on a PC, but fully acknowledge this is a me thing and not representative of your average PC enthusiast.
1. I want to game in my living-room on my TV and surround system. Aesthetically a big box in the room would not be appealing, I also assume fan noise might be an issue.2. I find it hard to believe that I could operate the PC just like a console i.e. operate it solely with a controller. I would imagine I would need a mouse and keyboard at times and I do not want to have to fuss with those or even have them in the space.3. I don't want to have to sit with every game I play first deciding on the most optimal balance of visuals to performance and the benchmarking and comparing that entails. I am the sort of person that wants everything optimised to the Nth degree and I would drive myself insane.4. Most importantly, I would never feel 100% comfortable with my PC. I would look at reviews of new hardware and fixate on how it would improve this that and the other and eventually buy it. I would be perpetually upgrading to ensure I have the best gaming experience.
For these reasons I prefer having a fixed, simple platform that is what it is, that I can simply game on without any further consideration beyond deciding if I want to play in performance or quality mode.
There's no competition at $399 or $499 either.Lack of Competition from Xbox Partly Why PS5 Pro Is $700, Says Analyst
All anyone's really talking about when it comes to PS5 Pro is the mid-gen console's price point, and it's easy to understand why. Even for gaming enthusiasts, an MSRP of $699.99/£699.99 is a hard pill to swallow, regardless of how much more powerful the machine purportedly is than the regular PS5. While there will be various reasons why the price is what it is, one analyst has suggested a lack of competition is very likely one of them.
Piers Harding-Rolls, a games industry analyst for Ampere, says the pricing strategy for PS5 Pro aligns with Sony's desire to "protect its margin", simply meaning it doesn't want to sell the console at a loss. He also cites "supply chain inflation" and "a lack of direct competitor to its mid-cycle upgrade compared to last generation" as further reasons for the $700 cost.
Harding-Rolls is of course referring to the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X — competing mid-gen consoles boasting enhanced capabilities over the standard versions. At the time, the PS4 Slim retailed for $299 while the PS4 Pro was $399, "a 33% differential". Compare that to PS5 and PS5 Pro, where there's a larger "40-50% differential" — and no direct competition from Xbox.
"The lack of competition means it is an easier decision for Sony to run with a higher price point to protect its existing margins," Harding-Rolls says. "For most prospective PS5 consumers, the standard edition will represent the value sweet spot."

I had patience, till I sold my PS4 Pro early to wait for a PS5 and ended up sitting like this watching people play the Last of Us Part 2
PS5 Pro all the way for me.
The best way to spend the next 4 years playing GTA 6, Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Tsushima 2, Horizon 3, Marvel Wolverine, The Last of Us Part 3, Bend Studios new IP, Santa Monica New IP, and more.
Yes, but I’m away the whole of December. Are you all still going to get a PS5 Pro?
Maybe, also maybe because MS launched a very expensive normal ass Series X with 2tb. Sony probably figured they could get away with anything.Lack of Competition from Xbox Partly Why PS5 Pro Is $700, Says Analyst
I read earlier the drives were sold out on Amazon I believe. It’s been just over a day and I’ve already seen a bunch of people who were outraged go and buy addon drives![]()
Sold out Australia wide now.I read earlier the drives were sold out on Amazon I believe.
3. That's the joy of a 4090 series card. Just set it to max. Done. NVIDIA Experience would even set it automatically in the background if you want. Tinkering is optional.
4. I mean, you can do that with other stuff. Like looking at reviews for the PS5 Pro. Or TVs, like why didn't you go for the 98 inch G4 when that would be the awesomest companion to the Pro.
I think the next generation of Steam Deck starts getting closer to your requirements.
Solves problem 2 (just the device, no peripherals) and 4 (only storage customization like console).
Partially solves problem 1 (portable so no big box or fan noise issue, but not on the TV and surround system) and if Valve finally wake up and include automatic optimal settings when games are "Steam Deck Verified" then that would solve problem 3.
Funnily enough, a Switch 2 sounds near perfect. All 4 problems are not present and there's a whole catalog of Nintendo games waiting.
Differences are obvious, but during gameplay probably don’t mean a lot.
The GT7 RT even a blind idiot could see.
Sony can’t trash FSR publicly so I’m looking forward to games that currently use that moving over to PSSR. There will be big improvements there with very little effort.
I would expect CP especially to get updated.I wonder if we'll see any of that applied to Alan Wake 2 or Cyberpunk 2077?
Apparently PSSR will be applied to PS4 titles in backcompat mode as well, I'll be interested to see what that's like.
Can't trash FSR or third party titles on the base console
